Zone Zero is becoming a bigger and bigger part of our lives. State regulations covering this area, the first five feet from your homes or out buildings are in the making. But, before we see any of them take effect, the insurance companies will start weaving zone zero requirements into their calculations when granting coverage.
Thinking about all of this, here are some things you can do right now make your home safer:
Remove immediately
* ❌ Wood mulch or bark
* ❌ Dry leaves and pine needles
* ❌ Shrubs touching siding
* ❌ Climbing vines on walls
* ❌ Firewood stacks
* ❌ Lumber, pallets, debris
* ❌ Natural-fiber doormats
* ❌ Outdoor cushions
Replace with
* ✅ Gravel, stone, pavers, or concrete
* ✅ Bare mineral soil (with erosion control if needed)
* ✅ Metal or ceramic containers
These steps are just the beginning.
In upcoming posts, will break down the process of making the first 5 feet around your house and structures fire-safe into simple digestible steps.
