Quality Signage is a big part of keeping communities fire safe. That's why the Konocti Fire Safe Council has been working so hard to get our firewise communities to label themselves in a way that is easy for first responders to spot and to adopt our reflect to protect address sign program.
Konocti Shores is the latest of our firewise communities to adopt this aggressive signage approach. KFSC board member John Nowell has been out in the community assisting residents with both programs.
When a community is designated as Firewise compliant, it's important that signage be placed in areas where first responders can clearly see that they are entering a community that pays close attention to practices that build wildfire resiliency.
The KFSC's reflect to protect program provides reflective address signs to property owners in our communities for a $30 donation. These easy to read signs make it easier for first responders to identify a property in the event of an emergency. While this is critical in a wildfire situation, it's more likely that a home owner will find these signs valuable in the event of a medical emergency when a timely response can literally be a matter of life and death.
All of us at the KFSC urge residents in our service area to not only become part of a firewise community, but to also participate in our reflect to protect program.
